My Friend is a Creative Snob
And that’s why she has no idea I’ve written a book.
I have a friend. She’s a very close friend and we’ve been through a lot together. But she doesn’t know everything about me, and there’s a good reason for that.
I think my friend may be a creative snob.
I’ve never openly tackled her on the issue, but it’s the message I’ve got through conversations we’ve had over the years.
For example, a while back I thought it would be fun to make and try and sell some paintings at a market.
“What, like those wanna-be artists you see selling stuff on e-bay?” she snorted.
To her, unless you have an agent and your work hangs in a gallery, then it’s not legitimate ART.
The next conversation was when she was a busy stay-at-home mom and I was working huge hours in my job. We began to talk about what we’d like to do with our time if we had more of it. My instant go-to was that I’d like to concentrate more on my writing.
“I know real authors, who’ve asked me to read over and give my thoughts on their work,” she snapped, suddenly intensely irritated.
I felt instantly deflated. Unheard, discounted. Heck, she’d never even read any of my writing, how would…
